PRESENTATION OF THE SPIRE

spire_001

The Spire tower is one of the most prominent features of Scots' Church. It is 120 feet high and was for many years the highest point in the city. During a severe storm in 1963, the top of the spire was extensively damaged by lightning and was subsequently lowered by 40 feet. However, in 1989 the exterior stonework was restored and the spire rebuilt to its original height, regaining its traditionally important position in the Melbourne skyline.

For more information and tour of the spire, we invite you to view our presentation below. Please click on the first slide to begin the presentation. Subsequent slides will advance every 10 seconds for your convenience. Enjoy the presentation alongside the snippet of "Ciacona in E Minor" played by Scots' Church own's Director of Music Douglas Lawrence AM.
