PRESENTATION OF THE SPIRE
The Spire tower is one of the most prominent features of Scots' Church. It is 120 feet high and was for many years the highest point in the city. During a severe storm in 1963, the top of the spire was extensively damaged by lightning and was subsequently lowered by 40 feet. However, in 1989 the exterior stonework was restored and the spire rebuilt to its original height, regaining its traditionally important position in the Melbourne skyline.
